Telangana: New Voters Must Provide Parents' SIR Details for Electoral Roll Registration

Hyderabad: The Election Commission has introduced a new requirement for individuals applying to register as voters for the first time in Telangana. Under the revised online enrolment process, applicants must now declare the status of their parents in the previous Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.

As part of the updated registration rules, new voters will be required to furnish details indicating whether their parents were included in the electoral rolls during the last SIR exercise. This declaration has been made mandatory for all online applications submitted for inclusion in the electoral roll.

The move is aimed at strengthening the voter verification process and improving the accuracy of electoral rolls. Election officials believe the additional information will help ensure that only eligible applicants are enrolled while reducing the chances of duplicate or incorrect entries.

Applicants should ensure that the information provided is accurate, as incorrect or incomplete declarations may lead to delays in the verification process or affect the processing of their voter registration application.

The Election Commission has advised eligible citizens applying for voter registration in Telangana to carefully review the updated requirements before submitting their online applications.
