Telangana SIR Drive Leaves Many Voters Worried as Residents Struggle to Arrange Required Documents

Citizens Across Telangana Face Confusion and Long Queues During Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Process

Hyderabad, Telangana: The ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana has become a major concern for thousands of residents, with many people expressing frustration over difficulties in completing the verification process. While the Election Commission says the exercise is aimed at ensuring a clean, accurate, and error-free voter list, several citizens claim they are struggling to gather the required documents within the given timeframe.

At SIR verification centres across the state, long queues of men and women have been seen waiting to submit forms and verify their voter details. Many applicants say they have been unable to locate old records, proof of residence, or other supporting documents requested during the verification process. For daily wage workers and elderly citizens, repeated visits to government offices have added to their difficulties.

Several residents have said that document-related issues are causing delays in completing their applications. Some families claim they do not possess older records, while others are trying to obtain missing certificates from local authorities. The uncertainty has left many worried about whether their names will remain on the electoral rolls.

Despite these concerns, election officials have appealed to the public not to panic. Authorities have stated that the Special Intensive Revision is intended to update voter records, remove duplicate or ineligible entries, and ensure that every eligible citizen is correctly included in the electoral roll. Officials have also advised applicants to cooperate with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and submit the required information as early as possible.

Legal experts and civil society groups have urged the Election Commission to ensure that no eligible voter is excluded due to genuine documentation problems. They have called for clear public guidelines, adequate assistance at verification centres, and sufficient time for citizens to complete the process.

The Election Commission has encouraged voters to check the status of their applications, verify their details carefully, and contact local election officials if they face any issues during the SIR process.

As the verification drive continues across Telangana, many residents hope the authorities will simplify the process and provide additional support so that every eligible voter can exercise their democratic right without unnecessary hardship.
